Beach Poetry
Greenleaf and the Lake, just south of Touhy
Beach Poetry is a unique performance poetry venue. Since 1990, Ed Roberson, Maureen Flannery, Andrea Change, Carlos Cortez, Lisa Buscani, the Aztec Dancers, Malachi Abaja, Marc Smith, Michael Warr, and Neal Pollack have been features. Beach Poetry was created by award-winning poet and playwright, Cathleen Schandelmeier and was originally held at North Ave. Beach and earned Schandelmeier the title "Poet Laureate of North Ave. Beach" by the Chicago Tribune in 1996. Presently located at Loyola Beach, on Greenleaf and the lake, The Beach Poets takes place from 4:30 pm-6:00 pm every Sunday afternoon in the summer. Look for the Beach Poets tent South of the Heartland's "Stand in the Sand" and bring poetry (your own or someone else's) for the round-robin open mic! Children and pets welcome!
Columbia alum Donna Pecore will also be reading at Manhattan's, 415 S Dearborn, on August 18th at 8:30, as part of the Elbowing Off the Stage reading series.
